  Dragon Hearts

  D.O.A. 1

Rene and his men are known as D.O.A., Dragons of Anarchy. They were created centuries ago, by the great Heck, to find and destroy serialists by any means necessary. Each member was gifted with a dragon that was connected to their soul. If one died, so did the other. The men didn't shift into the dragon, but they would call out and the maharishi would join them in the fight against evil. Not wanting their secret discovered, D.O.A. lived in a town called Drago, just outside Poconos Boulevard, and they hid behind their image as a bad ass motorcycle club

Children were being murdered and Rene, otherwise known as Pit, along with his men were out to find out who was behind the copycat murders of a long time serial killer known as the Alphabet Killer. While questioning a victim's mother, Rene discovered his sentience, his mate. Now all he had to do was figure out how to tell the man he was not exactly human, and he better do it fast because his dragon heat was already kicking in.

Bren was the local town veterinarian. He figured something was off about SI Rene Telkin. If not from the leather jacket with a large D.O.A. patch on the back, then maybe because he drove a navy Blue Harley Davidson CVO Street glider instead of a tan sedan.

Bren was not the type to get mixed up with a biker club, even if the man was a cop. However, something kept drawing him to the sexy man and it seemed that nothing would break the bond they were forming. Not even when he discovered the secret all D.O.A. agents held. A large dragon for a partner.

Now Rene needs to do his best to claim his mate and also track down a serial killer, because on the last body was a note threatening the good doctor of Poconos Boulevard.

  About the Author

  Dedication

I want to dedicate this book to Rene. He has always been one of the four men that encouraged me to step outside my comfort one and do a book that had motorcycles involved. So, I figure if he was willing to step outside his I should do the same...Thanks Rene. I learned a lot about motorcycle groups and even about motorcycles. Hugs and love.

  CHAPTER ONE

"Hey, Lex, how's it going?" Bren asked as he opened his post office box.

Lex smiled as he carried a box filled with US mail towards the door, "Hi, Bren. I'm doing great, thanks for asking."

As Lex went towards the door, Bren smiled when Erik opened the door allowing Lex out. Bren knew Erik from the numerous trips Erik and his mom made into his vet clinic with the world’s fattest cat, "Hi, Bren."

"Nice to see you Erik. How’s Kibbles doing?" Bren asked.

"Crotchety as ever, but that means she's good, right?" Erik asked.

Bren laughed softly. Kibble was a large, white, very over fed, Persian cat with an attitude as big as her stomach, "Yes, Erik, that's good. Just remember, keep her out of your energy drinks."

Erik smiled, "I am. I just thought it would get her to move around more. All she was doing was sleeping. Mom lets me give her a tiny bit of cream after football practice now instead."

Bren mussed up Erik's hair, saying, "Caffeine and cats don't mix. Make sure you follow her diet. Kibbles lays around because she's too heavy and needs to lose some weight. Energy drinks won't change that. Be safe going home."

Erik waved, "I promise to follow her diet. I better go, if I'm late getting home mom doesn't let me play Call of Duty."

"Seems you're as good with kids as you are with animals." Lex said, gathering another box of mail.

Bren snorted, "They're not much different at times. They just need some time and attention and they're great. Ignore them and they tend to want to gain attention any way they can."

Gathering his mail, Bren turned back seeing Lex struggling with the door while holding the box of mail. Rushing towards the door, Bren called out, "Let me get that for you."

"Thanks." Lex replied as he walked out and to his SUV.

Pulling out his car keys, Bren said, "You know, they should give you a city vehicle for all the miles you have to put on that thing."

"I get great gas mileage and they do mile checks for free. Besides, this is what I use for work. I have my baby at home that I use for my own personal enjoyment. It's a Porsche Cayenne Turbo. 570 horsepower with twin-turboV8 engine. I can hit over one seventy-five in no time and it glides as if it's on air." Lex said as he placed the mail in his passenger seat.

Bren stood there not knowing what to say. He had no clue what any of that shit was Lex just told him, but it seemed important to the guy, so Bren smiled, "That sounds nice."

Lex laughed, "You know nothing about cars, do you?"

Shaking his head, Bren replied, "No, sorry. The only horses I know anything about are the ones people ride."

Lex laughed louder, finally saying, "It's still hard for me to believe you're old enough to be an actual vet. You're what, twenty maybe twenty-one tops?"

Shrugging, Bren said, "Twenty-five, actually. Rylee, Jude, and I decided a long time ago we wanted to do something with our lives. We weren't interested in sports, but we were interested in higher learning. Our school allowed duel enrollment. That meant we could take classes in college while we continued in high school."

"That is really great. I wish they had stuff like that when I was younger. Maybe then I'd be doing more than delivering mail." Lex replied turning to go back into the post office to get more mail to deliver.

"Hey, why don't you come to Rylee's tonight? I'm grabbing a coupl
e of pizzas, Jude's picking up some brews and we're playing some cards if you're interested." Bren asked.

Lex opened the door, thought a moment, saying, "That sounds like a good time, Bren. I have something I need to do later, but it shouldn't take long. What time?"

"Seven. Rylee had the early shift and said he should be done by six and Jude didn't have court today." Bren explained.

Lex nodded, "Sounds good. I'll see you all at seven."

Bren got in his car and took off. He was already running late getting to The Manor Stables. He was scheduled to meet up with one of the ranch hands to have a look at some of the new mares they had just purchased.

Driving along Poconos Blvd, Bren couldn't help but look around at his nice town and thank whatever God was out there for bringing him here. He and his buddies had gotten really lucky when they had graduated from college and found Poconos Boulevard. It was unbelievable to think how a vet, doctor, and lawyer were all accepted into such a beautiful location in the Poconos. There was a little bit of everything here. Trees, flat lands, small city style living, country living, four full seasons...it was far better than California any day of the week and to think it was all from closing their eyes and pointing to a map. Hell, they were seriously lucky they hadn't touched on the Arctic. The people here didn't even care that he and his friends were gay. There were a few assholes, but shit, there was always a rotten apple in the bunch. The thing is, there was far more good than bad.

Bren arrived at the stables and held back a groan. Falon was leading one of the horses to the corral, which meant another awkward moment in life for Bren. Falon was a sixteen-year-old kid that didn't hide the fact he had the hots for Bren. Bren had tried everything he could think of to let the kid down easy, but Falon wouldn't take the hint.

Feeling his phone vibrate and needing a minute to prepare himself for the dodge and weave from Falon, Bren answered his phone, "Dr. Bren Billman."

"Hey there doc, it's doc." Jude said with his typical dry humor.

Shaking his head, Bren replied, "You know you always say that. When you gonna get a better line?"

"When you get better looking than me, so I guess never." Jude replied without missing a beat.

Being a gay man, Bren had to admit that Jude was sexy as hell. He had this look about him that brought guys from all around. Jude was a few inches shorter than Bren's own five eleven. And where Bren was Native American with long black hair and dark eyes, Jude had the young Italian boy look with dark spiked hair and the coolest white tips Bren envied to this day. People called Bren's look unique and Jude's exotic as well as mesmerizing. Rylee was the odd man out with his bad boy long on top blond look, but he never was at a loss for his admirers either. They were the Three Amigos from the day they met and nothing would ever separate them. It was a pact they made in kindergarten and nothing and no one would come between them. The three of them were gay, best friends, and totally off limits to each other. They never looked at each other sexually. They were brothers of the heart.

Bren always knew, that no matter what, he could count on Jude and Rylee. They had been there for him when his parents had kicked him out at fifteen, when they found out about his sexual preference. Jude's mom, Clara, opened her home and heart to Bren and treated him as a second son. It wasn't long after that when Rylee's parents were killed in a fire. He barely escaped with his life and Clara fought and won for him to come and live with them.

Clara was a loving woman but she had a strict side about her as well. She was the one that got Jude, Rylee, and Bren to start the duo courses when they hit ninth grade. She worked three jobs, but with the glory of crock pots, she always made sure they had home cooked meals and when she wasn't working, she insisted that they do things as a family...games, movies, fun, and laughs.

When Bren, Jude, and Rylee graduated from college, they all tried to get Clara to stop working, but she refused. Clara was not one to sit around with idle hands. She refused to allow them to purchase her a new home, but they did get her to accept a new car. She fought it at first, but they had insisted they wanted to make sure she was safe and had reliable transportation.

Bren had a sudden urge to call home, even if it was just to hear her voice. Maybe he could get Jude and Rylee to join him and make a surprise visit home for a couple of days.

"Hey, earth to Bren! Are you still there?" Jude yelled out.

Bren snapped back to the present, "Uh, yeah. Sorry, I was just trying to figure out how I was going to dodge Falon today."

"How is pretty boy? Did he do his hair and makeup to get ready for the nice family vet?" Jude teased.

Damn Jude could be a pain in the ass, "Jude, why did you call?"

"I called to check on Steph, but I guess I'll let it go for now. However, I promise to be the bane of your existence tonight." Jude replied with a laugh.

Bren scoffed, "Like that's something new. Steph is doing the best she can under the circumstances."

They had all met Steph in high school when she kicked Terry Butlers ass the day Terry accused Rylee of staring at his ass. Terry had waited for them to start walking home and jumped Rylee. Steph had been driving by, pulled over, jumped out with a baseball bat, and whooped Terry's ass good. She grabbed Rylee and told them all to get in her car. From that moment on the Three Amigos became four. Thinking about Steph brought thoughts of Aaron to Bren, and he quickly squelched them down. Right now, she needed his strength and it wasn't time for him to grieve. “Hey, I was thinking."

"Shit, call the fire department I can smell the smoke from here. "Jude teased.

Rolling his eyes, Bren replied, "Very funny. No seriously, we can talk to Rylee tonight, but what if we all took a few days and went to visit mom?"

"You missing her cooking, too?" Jude said affectionately.

Bren sighed, "I'm just missing her. Besides, I think she might do Steph some good. So, what do you say?"

Falon started to mess with his hair and give him that stupid finger wave. Jeez, what was this kid thinking?

"I think I can move some things around here and get Marshal to cover my rotations a couple of days." Jude replied.

"Nice. Well, I better go before Falon rips out all his hair flipping it around." Bren said with a laugh.

Before Bren could hang up, Jude yelled out, "Wait! I also called to ask you if you heard that they found Keith this morning?"

Bren stopped all movement. Breathing was difficult. He knew what Jude was about to tell him were not words he wanted to hear. Hell, it was only last month Steph's son, Aaron, was found at the church near the airport. He had been raped and asphyxiated. So, when Keith disappeared, Bren did not have a good feeling about it, at all.

Keith Krane was a twelve-year-old boy who came up missing the week before from the local Walmart. His mom had allowed the boy to go to the pet section to get his dog, Daisy, a treat. Daisy had just had surgery to remove a small benign tumor and Keith wanted to show his love to his dog. His mom had gone to get some milk and when she was ready to check out she went to go get Keith, but he wasn't there. The employees didn't remember seeing him and the store went on code Adam, locking the store down to locate the child. However, he couldn't be found, and the surveillance footage showed no signs of him leaving the store.

His friends knew Bren was particularly upset because he had developed a fondness for the boy and hearing about his disappearance really upset him.

When the situation with Daisy had come up, Keith had insisted on paying for the surgery himself. He said he had promised to be a good dog owner when he had asked for a puppy. Keith cleaned yards and did other odd jobs to pay for Daisy's shots, food, and whatever else she may need. Keith was insisting on paying for the surgery but he didn't have enough money. Bren had worked out a deal with Keith. The boy would come to his clinic and take care of the surrounding yard and help inside cleaning the crates, cages, and clinic rooms. Keith had been doing this every day for two hours after school. It was all just tragic and the longer he was gone, the less likely
it was Keith was found alive. He was a good kid that understood responsibility.

"Damn it, Bren, did you hear me?" Jude asked in frustration.

Sighing, Bren whispered, "He's dead, isn't he?"

Jude lowered his tone, sympathetically, "I'm so sorry, Bren. They found him raped and asphyxiated on Knox Street. The thing is, he was just laying on the side of the road Bren. They don't know all the details yet, but I thought you should know."

Bren wiped at a tear running down his cheek, "Thanks, Jude."

"Hey, why don't we just cancel tonight?" Jude suggested.

Even though Jude couldn't see him, Bren shook his head murmuring, "No. Being around my friends is what I need. I'll do my best to get Steph to join us."

"Bren, we all live together. I'm just saying we can chill and watch a movie tonight instead." Jude replied.

Letting out another deep breath, Bren firmed his reserves, "You just don't want me taking all your money again. No, some good fun will help. Anyway, I invited Lex and he said he'd swing by."

"Mr. Sleek and sexy is coming for dinner. Very nice." Jude said in his lusty voice that usually had an eyebrow wiggle to it.

"Oh, shut it. He's not my type." Bren said with a little smile.

Jude scoffed, "But he is mine. Big, sexy, muscular man has Jude written all over him."

Bren noticed Falon walking towards him, "Look, I have to go. I'll get the pizza on my way home."

  CHAPTER TWO

Rene hung up the phone, about ready to toss the fucking thing across the room.

"Is there a problem, Rene?" Taj asked sarcastically.

"The fucking Feds are up to their bullshit again. They're pissed because we didn't turn Cornwall over to them. I reminded them that we had a fucking deal. Humans they can have and use for their stupid press, but any paranormals will be dealt with on our terms, not theirs."

Shaking his head in disgust, Taj asked, "Why do we put up with their bullshit, Rene? We are the guardians. Created by Heck, himself, to watch over the humans and make sure they are all kept as safe as they can be. We are the ones that go after those that the humans can never find. Yet, the Feds speak to us as if we are simpletons. You and I both know the only reason they want the paranormal serial killers is because they want to do their fucking experiments."
